Friendica New User Tutorial Recommendations

!New To Friendica

Hello, I'm writing a #friendica tutorial for folks who want an alternative to Facebook. Nearly all of the target audience have never even heard of friendica. Since this is a group of individuals who are also new to friendica but have at least found your way here - I would like your input.

What is something that you have learned about friendica that you wish someone had told you at the very beginning?

To not import mastodon contacts if you are keeping a separate account. I see the same posts when I log into both platforms because I inadvertently did that. If I would’ve known when I set up my profile, I would have kept them completely separate.

Creating channels: the video etc checkboxs mean video is Required in a post to be shown in the channel, not permitted.

Adding people, adjusting which circles they are in, and muting/blocking people are all things that took me some time to figure out.

Adjusting the items shown on the lefthand menu.

Exactly. I still haven't understood what a circle is and what a channel is.

That groups can be addressed with an exclamation point or an at-sign. But I don't understand the difference!
